Because of the Kulturkampf in Germany, the architect Max Keuchen was commissioned to provide a design for the German Jesuits for a monastery outside the country's borders. In 1910, in 's-Heerenberg, 200 meters from the German border, German Jesuits were able to use the Boniface Monastery as a Novitiate and Retreat House. The building, built in a neo-Romanesque style, consists of a central part with two side wings. It impresses because of its very large size (basement, three storeys and roof). On the heads of the two side wings, chapels flank the central part. The axis of the central part is reached at the front by a low entrance hall and at the rear façade by an extension for the kitchen. In 1937 the Jesuits left the building and the White Fathers moved in. After its commissioning by the Selezians and later Golden Hands, the complex was purchased by Woonzorg Nederland in 2000.
