Already in the year 1080 there was a motte castle, a predecessor of the current Heeswijk Castle.
In 1672, the Sun King Louis XIV was the uninvited guest at Heeswijk Castle during his battle against the Republic of the Netherlands. At the end of the 18th century, Pichegru, general of the French Revolution led by Napoleon, still used the castle as his headquarters.
