The Pink

Oliemolen 't Pink, built in 1620, is the oldest of the remaining Zaan mills. Originally the mill was smaller, with a superstructure of the seesaw type mill, and had only one oil press, a so-called single-work oil mill. In 1751 the mill got its current shape and became a double oil mill. From 1779 to 1935 the mill was owned by the Honig family, who operated about 20 oil mills. In November 1792 the roof of the mill caught fire due to stormy weather, but it could be preserved. 15 March 1876 the top axle broke off during grinding with storm. This caused a lot of damage. In 1903 the mill broke both rods. June 25, 1915 lightning struck, causing a small fire. 11 September 1926 the top axle broke off again. The mill had been processing cocoa waste into cocoa butter for years. New top axle came from mill de Jonker which was also from Honig, this mill was then immediately dismantled. Around 1929 the mill came to a standstill. In 1935 it was donated to the Zaanse VVV which tried to transfer the mill. Then in '39 the mill was transferred to Ver. De Zaansche Molen, who had it completely restored. In the winter '44/'45 the mill was used to power printing presses. The mill, originally located in a meadow area, has gradually been built in since the late thirties. As a result, its landscape function is currently limited.
