Here you can find one of the oldest rocks in the Netherlands in the quarry near Winterswijk. Here, a limestone deposit was once laid down in a tropical sea, better known as the Muschelkalk. You can also find fossil footprints of dinosaurs here. It is now a hard stone layer that is used as a building stone in this region and far beyond.
