House Voorwijk

Voorwijk is a monumental mansion in the Drenthe village of De Wijk in the municipality of De Wolden. Since its construction, the house has almost always been inhabited by members of the Tonckens and De Vos van Steenwijk families.
Voorwijk was built in 1791 by the patriot and lawyer Wyncko Tonckens. He financed the construction from an inheritance received from his uncle Warmolt Lunsingh, the land steward of Dickninge. After his death and that of his wife Maria Vos, their five minor children lived in the house with their aunt Willemtje Vos. In the mutual distribution of the estate in 1817, Voorwijk went to daughter Rolina Tonckens. After her death, her eldest brother Warmold Lunsingh Tonckens purchased the house Voorwijk from her estate and rented it to his aunt Willemtje Vos and her husband Jan Diderik van den Bosch. In 1843, Voorwijk was rented to Reint Hendrik de Vos van Steenwijk.
