When you cross the Kamperzeedijk, you will see before you the greenhouses of the glass and horticultural area of the Koekoek in IJsselmuiden. 'The Koekoek,' which used to be a large peat bog, was formed around the middle of the 19th century through peat extraction. By the early 1900s, the polder, traditionally the lowest area of Overijssel, was drained, subdivided, and made suitable for agricultural purposes. In 1914, Gerrit Schinkel from IJsselmuiden became the first gardener in the Koekoek. He previously had his business in the Kom van IJsselmuiden. A walking path has been named after him. Meanwhile, the Koekoek polder has grown into an area of prestige for glasshouse and horticulture. Every year, various growers open their doors to the public during 'Come into the Greenhouse'.
