The Romano-Gothic Petruskerk of Zuidbroek was built at the end of the 13th century. It is a large cross church with a separate tower. Originally, the church was dedicated to Saint Augustine of Hippo. This saint is depicted on the seal of one of the last pastors and on the 17th-century church seal. The first name Augustinus was in vogue around 1600 among several families in Zuidbroek. According to the Geographical Dictionary of the Netherlands by A.J. van der Aa from 1851, the church was dedicated to Saint Peter. M.D. Ozinga adopted this claim in 1933. However, no evidence of this has been found in the archives.
