Right along the Geul is Den Halder Castle. It is a fortified residential tower that was located against the medieval city wall at the time. The origins of the tower date back to the fourteenth century, when Dirk IV van Valkenburg started the
Rebuilding of the city wall.
Later, it was converted into a residential tower, which meant that a floor was added and corner towers were added. Part of the original estate is now set up as a city park
