In 1997, the municipality of Zierikzee ceased to exist and became part of the larger municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland. The town hall of this municipality is indeed located in Zierikzee. The town hall is an architectural marvel that appears to be inspired by the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. A characteristic of it is that it seems top-heavy as it widens towards the top.
