From 1884 to 1924, the officer training (Main Course) of the Royal Netherlands Army was housed in this building. In 1924, the Main Course was merged with the Royal Military Academy in Breda. In 1973, the building was abandoned by the military and taken into use by the Theological University. In 1854, the Theological School of the Christian Reformed Church was established in Kampen for the training of ministers of the Reformed Church (PKN).
