The Dalem gate in the city of Gorinchem, in the Dutch province of South Holland, is the only remaining city gate of the original four that the fortified city counted after the improvement of the ramparts that was completed in 1609. The other three were the Pulpit Gate, the Arkel Gate, and the Water Gate; These have been demolished to make room for the growing traffic. The Dalem gate dates from 1597 and has a turret with a clock. Nowadays there is only a footpath under the gate in the direction of the river Merwede. If you follow the path, you will get a good view of the de Hoop flour mill built near the Dalempoort on the city walls.
