In Luttenberg there is a replica of the cave near the French town of Lourdes. The construction of the cave in Luttenberg is due to Father Petrus Butzelaar. When Pope Pius X abolished Corpus Christi as a Catholic holiday at the beginning of this century, this parish priest decided to keep this tradition alive with a procession through the village. To add lustre to the procession, the Lourdes Grotto was built along the path in 1915. The cave wall was constructed of mesh, stone and cement, with a niche for the statue of Mary with rosary. Until 1962 the processions took place in Luttenberg with the Lourdes grotto as the highlight at the end of the procession, both literally and figuratively!
