The Frieswijk estate is a private estate of approximately 150 ha. in the Overijssel municipality of Deventer, near the hamlet of Frieswijk. The now defunct mansion was a havezate.
The habitation history of Frieswijk began in the Mesolithic. During archaeological excavations, a settlement from that time was uncovered. Around the estate, parts of land defences are still present in various places. In the 14th century the estate Vriesewijck was mentioned as a loan from the Sticht Utrecht to one Gelmer Coenraets, at that time it was probably already a place of pilgrimage. It came into the possession of Geerlich Doys, a counsellor of Emperor Charles V. His grandson Johan van Middachten inherited the havezate, which remained the property of the Van Middachtens until 1901. In that year it was inherited by the Vos de Wael family, which transferred the estate to a foundation in 1950 for permanent preservation.
