The mill was built in 1703 and is therefore the oldest still existing octagonal scaffolding mill in the province of Overijssel. The mill remained in operation until the Second World War, at the beginning of the war the blade cross and the position of the mill disappeared. The mill has been owned by the De Wijhese Molen Foundation since 1977. Commissioned by this foundation, the mill was restored in 1979.
