The tjasker is a very simple type of polder mill. It used to cause dry feet, including in the peatland of the head of Overijssel. This is also the case in the water village of Giethoorn. A tjasker was used for draining pasture and for large peat excavations to keep the holes clear of groundwater. The difference in level is bridged with the help of a so-called open screw auger.
