The A.F. Stroink pumping station is located on the road from Twee Nijenhuizen in Vollenhove. This is the old Zuiderzee dike between Vollenhove and Blokzijl. The pumping station is a monumental building and a national monument. It was built in 1918 with two pumps and two upright steam engines. In the past, this pumping station only drained water from the area, but since 1996, water is also allowed in at low water levels. As a result, the water quality in the nature reserves has greatly improved.
