The Siege of Nijmegen took place from July 2 to July 9, 1672 during the Dutch War by the French army of Louis XIV.
The French entered the republic via Lobith, and on their way to Nijmegen, they encountered the defensive point "Schenkenschanz", which surrendered without any resistance. The chief officer of the bastion was the young son of the mayor of Nijmegen, named Hendrik van Hove or Haef, who was allowed to retreat with his company of 120 men to Coevorden.
