In the landscape of the Brabant reclamations, you can see relics of raised bogs and heaths. Raised bogs grew here under the influence of rainwater. Heather is a name for vegetation consisting mainly of dwarf shrubs from the heath and crow heather family. Heather is found in a limited number of countries. In addition to the Netherlands and Flanders, also in the coastal strip of Western Europe, Great Britain and Ireland. It is a typical vegetation that feels at home in regions with high humidity, not too hot summers and not harsh winters. This heath is a cultural landscape, created by man. It is caused by the extraction of nutrients by grazing and sodging of sandy soils.
