In 1996, there was a meeting where Mink Kok tried to mediate a dispute between the Heineken kidnappers Cor van Hout and Willem Holleeder on one side, and Sam Klepper and John Mieremet on the other. It was just a lot of chatter, Holleeder recently told the magazine Vrij Nederland. Not long after, Holleeder actually severed ties with fellow kidnapper Van Hout and joined Klepper and Mieremet. Holleeder claimed to do this for his own safety, on the advice of a source from the criminal underworld whom he did not want to name.
