Emmaplein

Description

The Queen Emma Square is named after Emma of Waldeck Pyrmont, the second wife of William III. She became the mother of Wilhelmina and thus the savior of the Orange dynasty. The statue by Lambertus Zijl from 1938 depicts her according to the clichéd image of an old lady, being carried in the arms of figures that seem to be taken from Egyptian hieroglyphs.

By the way, the entire park has become a small sculpture garden.
