The Dutch bicycle island Texel has been elected by National Geographic as the 12th most beautiful island of the world, out of a list of 111. The winners were the Faeröer Islands.
Texel was also the place where the Dutch controversial writer Jan Wolkers lived. He died in 2007 at the age of 81.
