The village of Deurne is the subject of one of the most famous songs in the Dutch language "The village". This song is sung by Wim Sonneveld. Musically, it is a cover of La montagne by Jean Ferrat. The Dutch lyrics were written in 1965 by Friso Wiegersma (under the pseudonym Hugo Verhage), Sonneveld's partner. The arrangement is by Bert Paige, who also led the orchestra. Sonneveld sings emotionally about Wiegersma's "village" upon seeing the damaged Deurne due to progress. The well-known line from the song, And along my father's garden path, refers to the path next to Wiegersma's parental home, the current municipal museum De Wieger on the Oude Liesselseweg in Deurne. This path was officially named The garden path of my father on October 14, 2008.
