Bruinehaar is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located about five kilometers northeast of Vriezenveen, close to Langeveen. It is located on a hair, a sand ridge in the landscape.
In old documents Bruinehaar Broune haer and later the boerschap Bruyne Haer are mentioned. It previously belonged to the Lordship of Almelo. Bruinehaar is geographically one whole with the Striepe, which is located in the County of Bentheim. It is the end of a long ridge in the middle of formerly extensive bogs, which were later mined. For many years the heath of Bruinehaar was the pasture for the sheep of the monastery at Sibculo. After that, the sheep of the Bruinehaar farmers were grazed here as well as those of the Striepe, according to old law. The original image of the Bruinehaar landscape has been thoroughly altered by human intervention in nature, in particular through sheep farming, fertilization, dyeing and mining.
