Winery de Colonjes

Until recently, viticulture in our country was only possible to a limited extent. Since the mid-nineties, several new hybrid grape varieties have appeared (Regent, Cabernet Colonjes, Cabernet Corits, Pinotin, Johanniter, Riesel, Cabernet Blanc and Helios.) In addition to a high degree of resistance to mildew, these varieties have the advantage that they ripen very well in a moderate climate.
Preparation for planting
Based on soil surveys, we have sown green manure in preparation for the planting of the vines. An example of this is the "Evangelische Mischung", a seed mixture (which includes winter vetch, buckwheat, inkarnaatklaver, alexander clover, sun flowers and phacelia). This mixture of plants and herbs not only creates a beautiful, colorful spectacle, but it also ensures fertilization of the soil and protection against diseases.
Planting in our vineyard
In April 2001, with a group of about 40 volunteers, we planted our first vineyard with 2000 regent vines. From April 2003 to April 2006, a total of 16,000 new vines were planted, both on the Colonjes and on the plot on the Knapheideweg.
De Colonjes has 5 hectares of vineyards with the following grape varieties: Regent, Cabernet Cortis, Cabernet Colonjes, Pinotin, Cabernet Blanc, Helios, Riesèl and Johanniter
In addition, we have a greenhouse of 72 m2, in which several new grape varieties are now growing. This greenhouse also serves as a presentation room.
