On the Hembrug terrain, a former industrial and military domain (approximately 45 hectares), were among other things, the Artillery Installations. The complex is located in the heart of the Amsterdam Defense Line. The Amsterdam Defense Line was a circular defense structure around the capital and was established between 1880 and 1920 by the then Ministry of War. Within the Amsterdam Defense Line, the supply of all necessary food and goods was of great importance. This was of course also the case for weapons and ammunition.
At this moment, the Hembrug terrain is being repurposed. The headquarters of the HollandRoute organization will be established in one of the monumental buildings.
