In 1056 a church in Weert is mentioned. In 1456 the preserved Gothic choir was completed. Around 1500, the old nave was demolished to build today's three-nave Gothic hall church. It was consecrated in 1512. In 1528, the construction of the tower began. At the end of the 16th century, the work was stopped due to lack of money. The church tower was completed in 1887. It collapsed in 1940 and damaged the nave. In 1960, a new spire was completed, similar to that of the Eusebiuskerk in Arnhem, by the same architect.
