At the time of the goat riding gangs in Limburg, Terborgh Castle served, among other things, as an aldermen's bench and a prison in which several members of the gang ended up. The notorious gang leader Geerling Daniëls of the goat riders was also imprisoned and tried here. He died of his wounds sustained while fleeing to the chapel near the castle where he thought he was safe from his pursuers.
