The windmill commonly known as "Kijkduin" is a round stone tower mill built in 1772 as a grain mill. Before 1575, there was a wind driven grain mill at this location, which was set on fire by retreating Spanish soldiers on May 27 of that year. Only after 20 years was a new mill, presumably a post mill, built, which was dismantled in 1771 and replaced by the current mill.
