On the first Sunday of October, the tragedy that took place there on 4 October 1944 is commemorated on the estate "De Vloeiweide" in Rijsbergen. At the time, in a secluded spot in the woods, stood the home of forester Neefs. The resistance had set up a radio station there. German soldiers and Dutch SSKK members raided this post. Nine people were killed in the cowardly raid on the forester's house: Mrs. Neefs and three of her children plus five resistance fighters. Eight other resistance fighters were executed the next day on the Galderse schietheide. The commemoration on the Vloeiweide, in which pupils from groups seven and eight participate, starts every year with a silent march to the war memorial. This monument, which stands on the site where the forester's house used to be, has been adopted by the St. Bavo School. A monument has also been placed on the Galderse schietheide.
