History
The original Zwartenberg mill was built in 1722. The wind mill was made of wood and the roof covered with thatch. The mill pumped the water from the Zwartenberg polder, an area of ¦ 450 hectares. On August 30, 1888, the mill was struck by lightning and burned down completely. In 1889 a new stone mill was built on the site of the old mill. In 1968 this mill became unemployed because the electric pumping station "Halle" was built in the polder area that took over the function of the mill. In pumping station Halle there are two pumps that pump (grind) the water from a much larger area, namely 2,500 hectares.
