In the early 19th century, the practice of burying the dead at the church came to an end. The then mayor of Ermelo, C.L. Vitringa, sold a field to the municipality that was used as a cemetery in 1829: 'De Kruiskamp'. In 1925 the cemetery was officially closed. In 1996, the cemetery was placed on the municipal monument list, the park was renovated and some graves were refurbished.
More information about this monument can be found in the publication Historical village walk Ermelo of stichting Natuur- & MilieuPlatform Ermelo.
