Gere Mill (Blue Seesaw)

The Geremolen (also called 'Blauwe wip') is located on the Oostvaart, about 1 km northeast of the village. Until 1957, the mill pumped the Oost- en Westgeer polder (270 ha.; head 1.80 m.). In the meantime, since 27 January 1966, there has been talk of the Geer- and Buurtpolder.
Between 1969 and 1974 the mill was owned by the province of South Holland; then it was sold to Rijnlandse Molenstichting. He had the then heavily dilapidated mill dismantled for the time being, to prevent general collapse. In addition, paddle wheel, water shaft and bottom wheel were removed because the mill would be jacked. On the latter subject, major discussions arose between the owner and the National Heritage Agency, which led to a lot of delays in the restoration.
In 1976/1977 the lower tower and mill yard were restored.
In the course of the 80s the mill was restored bit by bit; In 1986 the mill was completely complete again.
Meanwhile, this mill, one of the few in Rhineland south of the Rhine that is still located on bosom water, is still waiting for a mortar or other water lifting tool; the paddle wheel, which had already been enlarged at the time, does not return; the vacant lower wheel was donated to the Stichting de Utrechtse Molens and after renovation placed in Kortrijk mill in Breukelen.
