On the edge of the fen area north of Overasselt is the ruin of a 15th century chapel, dedicated to Saint Walrick. Walaricus, died in 622, was the patron saint of fever sufferers. Pilgrims came to the chapel to 'pray off' the fever of the sick. In the 19th century, worship passed to the 'fever tree' across the road. One can still see patches and strips of dust from fever sufferers.
