The name of the farm complex 'Schevichoven' means Vlashoeve.
In the middle of the 18th century there was still an old access road under the name 'Steegh van Schevichoven'. This ran from the Middelweg, past this farm to the Gooyerdijk, see map on the left.
The earliest known statement about the existence of the Schevichoven homestead
dates back to 1394. In that year Johan van Oud-Broekhuizen was granted 'Oud-Broeck-
huysen ende Schevichoven'.
The property was then described as: 'two hooves lants, veens ende hoefslagh'.
In 1406 Wijnand became Dirk Wijnandsz. Heerman, lord of Wayestein and Oud-Broekhuizen and so on.
In 1408 it came on loan to Wijnant, the son of his brother Dirk Wijnant. A certain Cunera, daughter of Harmen die Wijse, got ownership of the property. It was then detached from the large land holdings of former Broekhuizen.
In 1571 another Claes Adriaensz. who named Wijse as owner'. It turned out that he had changed his name to Van Schevichoven in 1579.
This family owned the property for more than two hundred and fifty years until Aart Woutersz. van Schevichoven sold it in 1662 to J. baron van Wassenaar, lord of Obdam, who then also bought the nearby 'Meulenkamp' in Darthuizen. The van Schevichoven family was allowed to continue living there despite the fact that the property changed hands through sales.
In 1726 it came to jonker Carel van Arnhem and in 1736 to W.H. van Nassau
Zuylestein, Count of Rochefort.
Aart Gijsbertsz. van Schevichoven, son of the then resident Gijsbert Aartsz., bought both Schevichoven and the Meulenkamp from the Count of Rochefort in 1756.
In 1768 most of this property, including the Meulenkamp,
to Baron Caneau de Beauregard (HUA U237a004-145). In 1792 he sold it to Cornelis Jan van Nellesteyn 6), the lord of Broekhuizen, and a part, consisting of nine acres of land to Lammert Lagerwey, who was a farmer in Leersum. Schevichoven was part of the Broekhuizen estate from that time until 1954.
In 1954 Schevichoven was sold to the Central Animal Feed Institute and turned into a test farm.
The farm had already been thoroughly renovated and restored in 1911 after a fire, but after 1954 major renovations took place again. In addition, a number of new barns were then added.
It was sold in 1981 and is still in use as a private farm.
The oldest, but rather heavily restored building of the complex is the pigeon tower. It dates back to the 17th century. The presence of such a tower indicates that Schevichoven was a 'delightful' property. The right to keep pigeons was traditionally a 'glorious right' and reserved only for the nobility 1).
