This church is located in the centre of the city of Leiden, in the middle of the shopping street "Haarlemmerstraat", next to the place where the Haarlemmerstraat crosses the filled up Mare (waterway).
The church has been designed by Theo Molkenboer, architect arranged by the "Ministry of Religion" (free translation). The Ministery (partly) financed the building (1836 - 1837) of the church. The church was used since 28 November 1837. It was enlarged in 1896. Large renovations happened in 1979 - 1981 and 1998 - 2003.
This church has been build on a spot where a brewery with the name "Het Witte Hart" (The White Heart) was located unitl 1760.
