Orthodox monastery in the Peel
The Orthodox Church is still very new in the Netherlands. Especially after World War II, some Dutch people got to know the Orthodox Church through the Russian emigrants who opened some parishes here. The monks lead a withdrawn life of prayer and contemplation, unmarried, in simplicity with communal church services, meals, and without personal possessions. They work within the monastery in obedience. They try to provide for their own maintenance through handicrafts. Interested individuals can attend prayer services and stay overnight in the monastery to reflect.
