On the corner of Stillewaldweg-Doetinchemseweg in Loerbeek is the former café that was called 'De Fiem'. Willem (Gerhardus Wilhelmus) Hendricksen, nicknamed 'De Fiem', was a carpenter and grocer. He built the house on land belonging to his father's farm. His birthplace is a bit further back. Photos can be seen on this site using the 'Photo Album' button: Loerbeek.
Until the 1980s, beer was served there. After Hendricksen, Jantje Duitshof took over, who had previously run a snack bar in IJzervoorde (municipality of Doetinchem). He ruled the kitchen, and customers could swing a hammer in the café: to get rid of excess energy, they were allowed to hammer nails into a tree stump.
