Hotel Heitkamp is a 3-star hotel located on Oudste Poortstraat in 's-Heerenberg. Since 1956, Bennie Heitkamp and his wife Sophie Heitkamp-Neijenhuis have been the operators. The building is an important part of the local carnival culture. The Barghse Jonges sing about it on their second CD 'Lèèf'. Hotel Restaurant Heitkamp was owned by the Ernst family in the 1920s. Before that, it was not a hotel. In 1881, Anna Gerharda Westerman, widow of L.L. Mutter, was the bartender, shopkeeper, and retailer. She was then only granted a license to sell spirits in the shop and not for sale in the front room. In 1905, the Mutter family did business in grocery items, manufactures, and meat products. There was also a café at that time. To make his hotel more attractive to guests, Ernst built caves on the ground floor. Bernard Heitkamp took over the business in 1927. A group of regular visitors to the café calls themselves the Heitclub. Several teams participate in the billiard competition Rondje Bergh.
