Hengelo (Low Saxon: Hengel) is one of the village centers of the municipality of Bronckhorst in the Achterhoek, in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The town hall of this municipality is located in Hengelo. The village has more than 4600 inhabitants and more than 6800 including the rural areas.
Until 2005 Hengelo was an independent municipality (with 8500 inhabitants, 2004), but as part of a municipal reorganization, the municipality of Hengelo then merged with the neighboring municipalities of Hummelo and Keppel, Steenderen, Vorden and Zelhem to form the municipality of Bronckhorst.
