Description

Since 1991 we have experimented as a hobby with new grape varieties that do not need to be sprayed against mildew. At the end of the 20th century, many new varieties became available, which had been crossed with the wild American varieties with the aim of obtaining mildew resistance. Furthermore, the American grape provided precociousness as a side trait. In 1997 we had already tried more than 40 varieties in three allotments on the Wageningen Eng. Some varieties such as Regent and Merzling turned out to do well here in the Netherlands, did not need chemical spraying, they ripened well and delivered very good wine.
