Beer brewery De Halve Maan

The name of the brewery refers to a specific part of the defenses of a fortified city. A "crescent" is a triangular island, located outside the rampart, on which a cannon and extra men were placed when the enemy approached the city. The original brewery was located near about half a moon, hence the name.
The new brewery is housed in a 19th century grain warehouse. The adjacent old station building of the train company Terneuzen - Mechelen now serves as a brasserie / tasting room where you can taste all the beers of the Halve Maan in this beautiful historical setting. In good weather it is good to stay on the terrace (former platform) with playground and petanque courts and a view of the actual brewery.

BeerExperience tip:
Buy a "Coarse Gun" (an 8% dark beer) and walk on the rampart around the historic city center. Between the city mill and the Galgebolwerk you can see an island down in the moat, which is the last remaining crescent of Hulst. Drink your "Coarse Artillery" there and think of the gunmen who at the time had the courage to try to stop the enemy from the crescent outside the rampart.
