"De Ruitersmolen" Beekbergen

The Ruitersmolen is a watermill on the Beekbergse beek in Beekbergen in the Dutch municipality of Apeldoorn.In 1606 Marten Orges founded the predecessor of the current mill. This was a paper mill. Later, a paper mill was also built on the other bank. Both mills were known as the Ruitersmolens. In the 19th century, the mills had different owners. The owner of the first mill, D. Boks, had it converted into a flour mill with two wheels in 1843. The paper mill burned down in 1864. In 1954 the Ruitersmolen came to a standstill. It slowly fell into disrepair, until the Hoogeland and Hullenoord Foundations bought the mill from the municipality and it was restored. The restoration was completed in 1985. On the first floor of the mill demonstrations of papermaking are provided, while on the ground floor grain is milled on a voluntary basis. There are two pairs of stones present. The Ruitsersmolen is regularly open for viewing. The mill has the status of a municipal monument.
