"The Hope" Rha

The mill De Hoop is a windmill built in 1879 and is located on the Rhabergseweg in Rha in the Dutch municipality of Bronckhorst. This belt mill was built on the orders of A. Reuling, to replace an earlier belt mill from 1856 that had burned down. It is a white-painted, round brick flour mill with 2 pairs of grinding stones. The elevation of the belt is three meters. De Hoop was in operation until 1962, after which the mill fell into disrepair. In 1995, the Hofman family bought the mill and the foundation Molen De Hoop was established. By 1998, the foundation had raised enough money to have it restored. In 2000, De Hoop started operating again. The sail cross is equipped with Ten Have flaps on the inner arm. Before the restoration, imitation flaps were installed, which caused the mill to function poorly. This was the cause of the long period of inactivity. The mill grinds grain on a voluntary basis and is open for visits twice a month.
