Scharmer is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen.
The village is located between Harkstede and Kolham on the sand ridge on which almost all villages of the Duurswold region are located. The name Scharmer is probably a corruption of Skiramere, which means clear water. This refers to the water-rich environment. Scharmer and belonged to the lowest parts of Duurswold: during the Christmas Flood of 1717, 25 houses were destroyed in Scharmer, although there were hardly any houses in the low-lying countryside.
