Hazerswoude-Rijndijk is a village in the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn.
Farmers from the village obtained an important resource: peat, by building dikes and dredging. Around the 16th century, peat extraction caused the village to be surrounded by water. Because the building and pasture lands had turned into peat lakes, most people left for the higher grounds along the banks of the Rhine.
