Haalderen is a small village in the Dutch municipality of Lingewaard. As of January 1, 2009, Haalderen has 1958 inhabitants. (Source CBS). On several high terrains, which did not flood in winter, farming families lived there at least 5 centuries before the beginning of the common era. After the construction of the large dikes, Essenpas became the core of Haalderen. The fortified Hof got a church, which marked the beginning of Haalderen. Settlements in Haalderen included Groot Baal, Essenpas, and Sallandsgoed.
