Slenaken is located in the valley of the Gulp. On the outskirts of Slenaken, along the banks of the Gulp, a huge stone is hidden among the woods. In 1953, an observant amateur archaeologist discovered a number of straight grooves on the boulder of Slenaken, which are grinding marks, created by the fact that the boulder was used in prehistoric times to sharpen axes of flint and bluestone. The stone of Slenaken is therefore a so-called sharpening stone or polissoir.
The Amstel Gold race was repeatedly planned by Slenaken.
