Gendt is a town and name of a former municipality in the Over-Betuwe and is located near Arnhem and Nijmegen in the Dutch province of Gelderland. Gendt is located on the river Waal, five kilometers northeast of Nijmegen. It has a population of 7141 (as of 1 January 2009). Gendt received his city rights in the year 1233. In 2001, the municipality merged with the municipalities of Huissen and Bemmel to form the new municipality of Lingewaard (initially called Bemmel). Furthermore, the municipality of Lingewaard consists of the cores Angeren, Doornenburg, Haalderen and Ressen.
