The village centre of Haaren was originally located a lot more to the west than it is today. The solitary church tower from the 15th century marks that spot. The old Lambertus Church, to which the tower belonged, was not allowed to be used for Catholic worship under the Reformation rule of the States of Holland. But there were no Protestants who could use the church either. As a result, the church fell into disrepair, eventually collapsing in the 18th century.
