Nessersluis

Description

The hamlet here is called Nessersluis, named after the village of Nes aan de Amstel, slightly further north. In the 18th and 19th centuries, there were several inns here, it was an important place for fishing and peat extraction, but the hamlet fell into decline after 1850.

The sluice, after which the village is named, has not existed since 1896. The Nessersluis was one of the lock sluices between the Amstel and a dug canal that runs southward towards Waverveen.
Here, to the left of the ferry, stands a monument in memory of the old sluice.
